As many of you know, the Bible story has it that Jesus Christ was crucified by Pontius Pilate, the Roman Prefect of Judea. Jesus died by this crucifixion. So what has Easter to do with all this? Well, Easter is a traditional Christian feast that celebrates the day that Jesus rose When Is Easter 2012 from the dead(taking the Bible as a source). The exact date of this happening is estimated between AD 26 and 36, although noone is (and could be) exactly sure of this being the right dates after such a long period of time. So when is Easter 2012? Look below for the Easter dates for this year. Easter is the end of a forty-day period of fasting and praying by Christians who practice this. The week that this period ends is called the "Holy Week" and the friday of this week is called Good Friday(go to this Good Friday 2012 page for more information) which is also celebrated widely all over the (Christian) world. After this 40-day period and the real Easter feast also follows the "Eastertide" feast. Eastertide is not celebrated as widely as Easter and is not as well known but some Christians still celebrate it. It is a 50-day feast of joy and food and celebrates each sunday(in the 50-day period) as if it was a Easter Sunday. The reason why Easter has different celebration dates each year is because it is a moveable feast which follows the Paschal Full Moon dates. As you know, Easter is celebrated over two days. Easter was originally a feast celebrated for an entire week after the period of fasting and praying but during the 19th century this changed into a period of two days, sunday and monday. In this day and age, both the Sunday and Monday are mostly used by people to visit their families and/or have a cozy together with loved ones. Many people all over the world celebrate the day by eating eggs, hide-and-seeking eggs, or doing egg races(especially in Germany this is a popular tradition).
